Neighborhood-Packet
Neighbors are our best resource in the face of natural disasters. Several neighborhood groups have begun engaging with their neighbors to actively prepare for emergencies. Their experience will allow us to continue pulling a more concise and targeted information packet together, in the meantime these links provide some basic material for use in discussions with neighbors as you build a resilient community.
Experience in Washington and elsewhere suggests 15-25 houses in a neighborhood.
Deciding / Knowing ahead of time
Contact names in family, ages, pets.
Mapping all possible utility threats at each house and how to turn off if leaking.
A meeting place in Neighborhood for after the disaster. (carport, central location?)
Deciding ahead on a hub for info from battery radio and place for fragile elders or nursing if needed until help arrives.
Pooling skill or resource list from neighborhood. (generators, freezers, chain saws, am radios, etc.
When a natural disaster strikes
Taking care of yourself and family first at a time of disaster. Putting out fires in your house.
Putting up your help/ok sign in the window to communicate to team your status
Teaming up to assist neighbors as able and needed
